FAQ & No Hidden costs

In most clubs and organisations there are hidden fees not with MJN karate club.....

This section will explain all the costs that you may incur over a yearly period.

How all the parents have truly understood what you pay for as a martial arts student is as follows, think of the students as a car.

The car needs road tax, the car needs insurance,  the car needs petrol and the car needs general upkeeping costs.

In martial arts the “road tax” is the yearly club membership, which is as low as £25 per student. This is payable after the first 3 weeks of training, and/or annually in September. this will automatically be added to your membership when you sign up. For all those students that are current members of MJN Karate you will have an extra membership added to your account so we can collect it that way. This ensures the weekly/monthly fees are as low as possible.

Which leads on to the “petrol” this is the weekly fees or monthly fee's (Please check with your club instructor)

Every car needs “Insurance” and so does every student, this ensure your grade is registered into the UKSKO and the EKF and also ensures the students are covered during training exercises and tournament throughout the year. This is a set fee for juniors of £38 a year (pre 1st kyu)

The last part of what you need to keep your car/ martial arts student running is “general upkeeping cost” this will include the karate Gi uniform & mitts and pads (for sparring) prices can change from time to time so please look at the equipment page on this site.

Every 3-6 months each student will participate in an “MOT / service” this is called a grading where they will complete specific techniques in-front of the Chief Instructor or one that Sensei Perry has appointed to conduct local club gradings for our organisation to establish whether they have learned the desired technique to pass to the next Level (Kyu grade).

Our cheapest way for paying for lessons is paying via the monthly D/D which means your dont only get to go to your closet club from your house, but you also get to train and all of our other clubs completely free. Monthly D/D is set up via the app and is will automatically be taken either on 1st or 15th which ever is after the date of registration. if you attend 4 weeks worth of lessons. (3 lessons a week) your monthly cost per class is a massive £2.33 which is a great saving.

Joining Fee's and Yearly Club Memberships are non refundable as this is the only way to allow us to make sure each lesson fee is as low as possible.

FAQ - payment

Q. Can I pay Weekly?

A. For the first couple of weeks, yes you can until the D/D has been set up.

Q. Do you train throughout the half terms?

A. Yes, we train during the school half terms whereby the child have 1 week off, however these are reduced lessons and only 1 hour of training. all students comes together and training in the same lesson irrespective of grade, an age.

Q. Can I cancel the Direct Debit?

A. Yes of course you can when you cancel the direct debit or have intentions of cancelling the Direct Debit just let Sensei Scott know with 4 weeks notice and once the Direct Debit has been cancelled the student/s wont be able to attend the lessons until the Direct Debit has been set up again.

Q. What if I cancel the Direct Debit and want to re-join again.

A. Not a problem. Let the admin team know and they will be able to add you back on, however the months you didn't pay for, half of each of the months will be added to your first D/D.

Q. If I leave will I have to repay the joining fee.

A. Yes if you leave for more than a month you will have to repay the joining fee. as it is there to keep our membership fee's as low as possible.

Q. Why has payments increased?

A. Each year we evaluate the membership fees including the yearly club membership some years they have not increased, despite the hall hire fee increasing. Fees will be increased as minimal as possible to help each student make it affordable.

Q. Do I save money by setting up the Direct Debit.

A. Yes this is one of the main reasons why we are setting it up. For a single membership you will be saving £378 per year by setting up this direct debit. For a Family Membership (max 3 students from the same family) you will be saving £1242 a year

Q. Do I still pay the £25 joining fee / Yearly club membership?

A. Yes this is renewable every time someone starts training with us and also renewable every September as this is separate from the lesson fee's.

Q. What if I receive an email about a hall closure?

A. If you receive an email about a closure for more than 3 weeks then the admin team will be in touch to reduce the fee of training for that month. because you are paying single/ double or family Monthly direct debit you are paying for unlimited classes a month not at specific venues. there will be times when the hall gives MJN Karate dates in future which will be completely out our control, where they require the hall for 1 week but that it normally once a year.

Q. What date will the Direct Debit come out of my account?

A. When you set up the payment process via the App you wont have the facility to change the date so I will have to change it manually to the 1st of every month or just after if 1st is a public holiday/ weekend

Q. How many people does the family membership cover?

A. Max 3 members of the same family (registered at the same address)

Q. How many class's can I attend on a single membership.

A. You will be able to attend every class during the week. (currently 3 class's a week) meaning over a 4 week period you will be able to train up to 12 times.

Q. What happens when the gradings are held on the Friday evenings and I have paid for the monthly D/D.

A. When the gradings are held (dates to be confirmed) all students will and can (every week) choose what class they want to, meaning the Friday class students can move to any class during the week.

Q. Do I get charged for the summer holidays, Christmas holidays and Easter holidays, even though there isn't any class's?

A. Yes the fee for all memberships are calculated over a training year of 42 weeks. So it doesn't include the 6 weeks during the Summer and the 2 weeks at Easter or Christmas. Direct Debits will be charged 1st month every month throughout the year.

Q. Why have I had additional charges added to my account of a smaller fee?

A.  This is a Pro Rata payment. This fee is generated from the date you started the payment up until the next payment date. The system we use has 2 payment dates. 1st and 15th of each month.  Meaning,  if you signed up on the 3rd of the month you will have a pro rata payment up until the 15th and then the monthly fee will commence from the 15th and then process on the 15th of each month.

Any more questions people will ask regarding the above will be added just in case others may want to know.
